Pakistani Kima (Hamburger Curry)

January 17, 2012

Here’s an easy and yummy main dish. I like to use a mixture of hot curry powder and sweet curry powder (from the Spice House) so that it’s spicy, but not too spicy. If you just have sweet curry powder, you could add a pinch of cayenne to spice it up a little. It is really good topped with lots of sweet shredded coconut.

Pakistani Kima

3 Tbsp butter

1 cup chopped onion

1 clove minced garlic

1 lb. ground beef

1 Tbsp curry powder

1 ½ tsp salt

dash each: pepper, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric

2 cups diced tomatoes (canned or cooked)

2 potatoes, diced

2 cups frozen peas

shredded coconut, for topping

Sauté onion in butter until soft. Add garlic. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Add the rest of the ingredients (except coconut). Cover and simmer 25 min. Serve over rice.

Very good. I didn’t have peas so I used green pepper, and I didn’t have rice so I used noodles.
