Grandma’s Nuts and Bolts

December 24, 2011

There are lots of different nuts & bolts recipes out there, but this one that my grandma would make every Christmas is my favorite.  This year we got to make it together. The seasoning is subtle, but delicious (you wouldn’t know how much butter is in here until you make it yourself!) However, if you want a spicy version, it’s even more addictive with the chaat masala spice mixture sprinkled over it when it’s done.

Mix 2 cups each:

pretzel sticks

Melt 1/2 lb. butter and mix with a few dashes of Worshestershire sauce and a few dashes of garlic powder. Pour over cereal mixture and spread on baking sheets. Bake at 225 degrees F for about an hour (or two, especially with a lighter colored pan), stirring occasionally. It is ready when all the butter has been absorbed, the cereal is dry, and a few of the Cheerios are starting to get darker.
