Chocolate Brittle

Very simple to make and extremely tasty.  It also makes great gifts, which is good because otherwise it would be too easy to eat the whole pan yourself.

Salted soda crackers

1 cup butter

1 cup brown sugar

1 ¼ cup chocolate chips

slivered almonds (optional)

Line 4 sided cookie sheet with aluminum foil then line with soda crackers.  Mix butter and sugar and boil hard for 5 minutes, stirring all the time.  Pour butter mixture over crackers, spread, bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees F.  Sprinkle chocolate chips over, let sit for a few minutes until they start to melt, then spread.  Sprinkle with slivered almonds.  Let cool and break into pieces.
